The final CCSC meeting of October took place last night in Lerner’s Satow Room. Just a reminder that we meet every Sunday evening at 8pm, and every Columbia student is encouraged to come and visit us during these public meetings. Here’s a quick recap from yesterday:
We started our Halloweekend meeting with a presentation by Daniel Spiegel, the Director of Sports Marketing for CU Athletics. Did you know that almost 50% of the student body showed up for Homecoming? That’s 2400 students! That said, Basketball Mania is coming up this Thursday at 9pm, so let’s keep the momentum going and kick off a great basketball season!
Executive Board Updates included discussions about funding from Kevin Zhai. We’re looking for ways to clear up any confusion about how groups can apply for co-sponsorships. If you have any suggestions, please email ccsc@columbia.edu. There was also some discussion about revamping the Student Government Office (SGO) on the fifth floor of Lerner. Many members expressed interest in making the space more inviting in order to attract more students and student groups to use it regularly.
Ryan Cho’s policy update included a talk about Hamilton Hours and adjustment of the RA/CA rider policy, in an effort to fix the issue where 2 students might be rooming with one RA and his/her rider. Also, check back on the website soon for a comprehensive Who’s Who list, identifying the people who sit on the various committees on campus, from Housing and Dining to the Committee on the Core.
Rohan Jotwani, CCSC’s Pre-Professional Affairs representative, then gave a presentation on the Center for Career Education, and how they want to work with students on a few issues this year. Rohan had 3 main concerns: Communication, gaps in how CCE meets the needs of specific student career fields, and a growing trend in career choices that needs to be investigated (it’s finance and consulting, surprise surprise!).
After a vote to fund co-sponsorships for both the CU Wind Ensemble and Engineers Without Borders, the Council headed out for the night. Have a great week, and we hope to see you all at Basketball Mania this Thursday!! As usual, questions, concerns, feedback- whatever it is, email ccsc@columbia.edu
