Student Services Representative Christina Fan recently attended meetings for both the Lerner Hall and Dining Advisory Committees. Here are some of the issues that were discussed.  If you have any questions, please contact Christina at ccf2131@columbia.edu

Lerner Advisory Meeting:
  • As per ESC’s initiative, Lerner is looking into putting in a game room and setting up a rentable videogame system. This is still in its beginning stages as there will have to be policies drafted but Lerner seems happy with this new initiative.
  • There was also discussion regarding the banners in Lerner and whether there can be a system of rotation as there are more requests than there are spaces available to put these banners up.
  • The computers at Lerner Lobby are the only ones open to public and Lerner is debating whether to take them away as they are used mainly by people in the community and non CUID holders. A possible replacement for these computers is to set up mail kiosks so students can swipe their CUIDs and see whether they have packages in the mail room, and if they do, they can notify mail services so by the time they get up to the mail room, their packages are ready for them. This shortens waiting time. This is only a suggestion and we don’t know how viable this method is.
  • Lerner is also launching a new website that will make it easy to find out where everything is in Lerner, including the offices, lounges, etc.
  • Regarding events with guest lists, non CUID holders will have to register with UEM via your club’s advisor 48 business hours before the event. Valid CUID holders can sign in three people. This requires more time and effort, so they encourage you to use TIC as it is smoother and more efficient. The ticket will allow non CUID holders to get into Lerner without having to sign in.
Dining Hall Advisory Meeting:
  • Dining halls are looking to take away the paper feedback forms with the launch of the new website, as students are able to go onto the website and put feedback on there instead. They are also relaunching their Facebook page.
  • Dining Services is going to renovate the waffle station at Ferris Booth by January so there will be three waffle makers and a toppings bar next to it.
  • Thanksgiving dinner is ALL SOLD OUT. But for those who didn’t register for the Thanksgiving feast, Ferris Booth will be serving Thanksgiving meals on the same day.
  • Dining Services is looking for feedback on the Holiday Dinner, so if you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to let them know.
  • Along with the game room in Lerner, ESC also reached out to Dining Services to discuss a possibility of using JJ’s as a game room as well.
  • Next meeting is on Dec 9th at 10am.
