[ALMA MATTERS ♔] 1.21.12
WELCOME TO SPRING 2012, COLUMBIA COLLEGE!
I hope you have all had a restful, relaxing, and reinvigorating winter break. It’s finally the new year, and I, for one, am ready to rock like never before…(second-semester senior, #sorryimnotsorry).
Let’s kick things off with our first event of the new semester, “What’s Wrong, Columbia?”. We want you to tell us literally everything that you think can be added, improved, or gotten rid of at this school. Consider it your bucket list of whatever you want to see changed. See you there tomorrow in the Satow Room, Lerner 5th Floor, at 8pm! And as per our council responsibilities, there will be free food.
Later, check out some of the awesome opportunities below and avoid the snow slush like the cold, dirty shoe-soaker it is.
Happy to be home,
Aki Terasaki
Student Body President

It gives the Application Development Initiative great pleasure to host its second annual DevFest 2012 (Click the Link!). DevFest is a week long developer festival that kicks off Saturday, January 28 at 1pm in Davis Auditorium. The rest of the week will be filled with workshops and lectures on topics related to development and entrepreneurship. DevFest will culminate in a demonstration event Saturday, February 4 at 12pm in Davis Auditorium where teams will have a chance to show off their product to a panel and general audience of representatives from NYC’s top Venture Capital firms, hot tech startups, larger companies, and fellow peers. Rather than focusing on building “hacks”, DevFest’s mission is essentially to help teams create useful applications for fellow Columbians or New Yorkers alike.
Check out this Techcrunch article that was written up about the event last year.

6. Senior Award Nominations | 1/29 Deadline
Dear Columbia College Seniors,
Throughout your undergraduate years at Columbia, you have undertaken a rigorous academic curriculum, engaged in culturally and intellectually stimulating activities, and participated in various social and co-curricular organizations. As a member of the Class of 2012, we now invite you to acknowledge the many accomplishments that you and your peers have made during your time at Columbia by participating in the senior awards nomination process.
In keeping with annual tradition, graduating seniors have an opportunity to assist in the selection process for the following Class Day awards:
Alumni Prize: Awarded by the Alumni Association of the College to the senior judged by classmates to be the most faithful and deserving.
Edward S. Brainard Prize: Awarded to the member of the graduating class who is judged by classmates to be most worthy of distinction for qualities of mind and character.
Charles M. Rolker Prize: Awarded to the member of the graduating class who is judged by classmates to be most worthy of special distinction because of scholarship, participation in student activities, or any combination thereof.
To nominate one of your peers or if you have been asked by a classmate to nominate yourself, simply visit the Student Awards and Recognition web site to complete a nomination. You may nominate up to three people.
The nomination period will conclude on Sunday, January 29 at 11:59 p.m. Note that there will be an additional call for nominations in February for many other awards and honors but nominations for these three awards will only be accepted prior to Sunday’s deadline.
