Hey Columbia College! Here’s an edited press release about a new initiative recently started by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) of the University Senate that will transparently gather information about Morningside student space needs in the light of the development of the Manhattanville campus:
The Student Affairs Committee of the Columbia University Senate has launched the Morningside Student Space Initiative (MSSI). The current phase of the initiative focuses on four Morningside campus schools that may not receive new student space in the Manhattanville campus. These schools are Columbia College, General Studies, The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Columbia Engineering (both graduate and undergraduate).
MSSI will begin with a survey of students from all four schools to learn about their student space needs. SAC, along with the respective student councils, will write a public report detailing overall needs for student space as well as specific needs for each school. The report will serve as a foundational document to ground future discussions about Morningside student space.
SAC will complete the MSSI report by the end of April 2012. In the coming weeks, student leaders will work with their constituencies to gather information about student space needs in a unique, student-led, campus-wide collaboration.
Feel free to direct any questions or comments to studentspace@columbia.edu. We look forward to incorporating your feedback!
